Mary Alice Gomez named new Principal of East Central High School
She began her career as a high school math teacher at West Campus High School in South San Antonio ISD, where she taught for nine years. She then served as an assistant principal at Southside High School in Southside ISD for five years before becoming the Academic Dean at East Central High School for six years.
While growing up in the west side of San Antonio, surrounded by a loving family, Ms. Gomez learned the value of hard work and education. She realized early on that both were required to break the cycle of poverty and was overjoyed when she was accepted to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education. After teaching for several years, she enrolled at Texas A&M in Kingsville, where she earned her Master's Degree in School Administration and later earned her Superintendent's Certificate in the first class at Texas A&M-San Antonio.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. Gomez is a proud mother of two sons, Jared and Jeremy, a sister to four wonderful women, and the daughter of a resilient and inspiring mother. She enjoys relaxing at the beach or fishing in Rockport in her free time. She is enthusiastic about rejoining the East Central High School community. Go, Hornets!
