Elementary School News
- Harmony Elementary
- Fifth grade students from Mr.Halcomb and Mr.Grace's class earned lunch bunch and met our class pet Cheddar the corn snake.
- Honor Elementary
- Ms. Perez’s first grade class is getting in the swing of learning routines and procedures during literacy stations. Stations are fun and engaging ways to practice phonics skills to help build strong readers!
- Mrs.West's students are working on cvc spelling patterns through differentiated work.
- On Friday, August 15, fifth graders in Mrs. Kristina Gonzales's classes cracked the code as they used the TexQuest databases in the library with Mrs. Mariya Ortiz and UNT Library Practicum student Mrs. Kaitlyn Pina to get an introduction to the Italian Renaissance. Each task card completed had secret codes to unlock to help them discover their ultimate prize: Library Check-out. They are getting ready to experience a real Reading Renaissance in 5th grade.
- Oak Crest Elementary
- Big shoutout to our incredible Life Skills team at OC! 🎉 A huge round of applause for our Life Skills teacher (Mr. Trevino) and his amazing paraprofessionals (Ms. Cassidy, Mrs. Ruby, Ms.Victoria, + Ms.Paulina) who go above and beyond every day to support our students. 🙌 But today, the spotlight is on the real stars—our students! 🌟 They’ve been mastering routines, procedures, and tackling station task boxes like absolute pros. We’re not just celebrating learning—we’re celebrating growth, perseverance, and teamwork. They’re showing what it means to be OC Stingers while leading the EC way. 🐝💛
- Starting the year out strong! Mrs. Rodriguez and Mrs. Salinas are rocking the Reach and Respond routine. Their intentional daily connections create a welcoming space where students feel seen and valued at OC!
- Pecan Valley STEM Academy
- First grade teacher, Ms. Flores, meets with her students to discuss goals for first grade.
- Second graders in Ms. Lugo's class are learning expectations for logging into their chromebooks.
- First full week of school getting students into routines and procedures so we can have a successful school year! Kindergarteners learning how to use Chromebooks with our new “age of learning” program! They enjoyed it so much! My sweet kindergarteners using our cool new writing tablets to make learning fun!
- Mrs. Galloway's third grade class is STEMMING IT UP using index cards to build the highest tower.
- Salado Elementary
- Students began exploring lines as one of the elements of art. To make the lesson hands-on and engaging, they used Play-Doh to create different types of lines, bringing this fundamental art concept to life through touch and creativity.
Middle School News
- Heritage Middle School
- On August 9, Heritage Middle School 8th grader Kylee Kellner and district specialist Faith Moore were invited to speak to Los Bexarenos Genealogical and Historical Society about the San Antonio Regional History Day program. Kylee shared insights into the inspiration behind her project, the historical significance of her topic, and her experience in the program. Last spring, Kylee earned first place at both the San Antonio Regional History Day and Texas History Day competitions, securing her place at the National History Day competition in Washington, D.C. Congratulations to Kylee on her outstanding achievements and representing the National History Day program in the community!
- Legacy Middle School
- Shout out to Principal Jaime Jaen for giving our first pep rally and showing off his basketball dunk skills! All students were able to have fun with their peers at the first pep rally of the year! Staff showed out for their students!
High School News
- East Central High School
- Over the summer our ECHS dance & drill officers had an incredible 3-day camp in San Marcos, TX, (June 7th-9th) hosted by ShowMakers of America. On Day 1, our ECHS officer groups made a great first impression and proudly claimed the “Officers of the Day” award, standing out among a considerable number of competing officer groups. On the second day, our officers showcased their talents, and every single one received All-Star ribbons for their exceptional performances. Golden Stars officers received a sweepstakes plaque for their Division 1 performance. Honeybees received a sweepstakes plaque for their Division 2 performances. On the third and final day Golden Stars received plaque level for their Camp Dance performance. Honeybees received 1st place in their varsity level Camp Dance performance. Honeybees also received a Grand Champion plaque overall. Way to go Golden Stars & Honeybees! A standout moment came when our Honeybees Colonel secured 1st place in Miss High Kick and was the runner-up for the prestigious Miss ShowMaker award, competing against over 300+ officers. Congratulations to Miss Natalie Kennemore for this remarkable achievement, way to make Honeybee history! We couldn’t be prouder of our dedicated 25-26 Honeybee and Golden Stars officers—they truly exemplify the excellence of our program.
- Our 18+ Vocational Step Program got to do their Orientation to volunteer at The DoSeum. Our students are excited to get back to Job Sites.
