Important UIL Update

Spanish-version of letter (PDF)

Dear East Central ISD Parents and Students:

Due to the challenges surrounding Covid-19, The University lnterscholastic League (UIL) and East Central ISD  have worked to adjust our processes for UIL Pre-Participation Physical Evaluations (PPE).  UIL has recently modified its policy. As of 5-1-2020, UIL's new policy states:

"Any participant in athletics or marching band, in any grade level, who has NOT previously completed a PreParticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE), and been cleared for participation, will be required to complete the Medical History Form, as well as a PPE prior to participation in any UIL practices, games, performances, or matches."

In ECISD, school board policy that requires all athletes and marching band participants to receive a PPE every year has been suspended on to reflect UIL's new policy for the 20-21 school year. IF YOU PARTICIPATED IN UIL ATHLETICS OR MARCHING BAND IN 19-20 AND HAVE A CLEAR 20-21 MEDICAL HISTORY FORM, YOU WILL NOT NEED A NEW PPE.

ALL students participating in UIL athletic activities will need to complete the online forms at  https://eastcentralisd.rankonesport.com

Please complete both the “Emergency & Travel Information” and “UIL/Athlete Participation” forms.

The UIL Medical History & PPE form can be found at: https://www.uiltexas.org/files/athletics/forms/PrePhysFormRvsd4_24_20.pdf

Please complete the Medical History portion of the form and return it to athletictraining@ecisd.net or drop it off at the District Athletic Office. Once the athletic trainers have reviewed the form and determined that your athlete does not need a new physical they will log the form in the student’s RankOne profile under the “Miscellaneous” column.

One of the anticipated challenges of PPE's is the limited number of medical facilities that may have the capacity to handle the large numbers of students needing a PPE during this unique time. Most urgent care facilities, such as Texas MedClinic, can perform PPE exams for a minimal cost. At this time there is no plan to perform mass physicals, due to the challenges of dealing with the COVID19 virus.

Thank you for all of your patience and support with these new procedures as we navigate these trying times. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the athletic office at (210) 581-1173.

With Hornet Pride,
Suzette Arriola
Director of Athletics
East Central ISD
