How to Submit a Request
East Central ISD is committed to transparency and complies with the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), Chapter 552 of the Texas Government Code. To streamline the process and ensure accuracy, all public information requests should be submitted using our online form.
A valid email address is required so we may communicate with you regarding your request. After submission, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive one, your request was not submitted correctly. Please try again or contact our Public Information Officer listed below.
Texas Government Code §552.234 states that a governmental body may designate a specific method for receiving written requests (such as an online form), and if that method is posted on the website, the request must be made using that method. You may then require the fields necessary to facilitate communication, like an email address.
Important Information
Existing records only: Requests must be for existing, publicly available documents. ECISD is not required to answer questions, create new documents, or perform legal research.
Response timeline: ECISD will respond within 10 business days, excluding weekends, holidays, and ECISD’s designated non-business days. If your request cannot be produced within 10 working days, the public information officer will notify you in writing of the reasonable date and time when it will be available.
Cost estimates: If your request will result in charges over $40, we will provide an itemized cost estimate before processing (Texas Administrative Code §70.7).
You must respond to any written estimate of charges within 10 days of the date the governmental body sent it or the request may be deemed withdrawn (Texas Government Code §552.2615).
Please make timely payments for all mutually agreed-upon charges. A governmental body can demand payment of overdue balances exceeding $100.00 or obtain a security deposit before processing additional requests from you (Texas Government Code §552.267(a) and §552.263(a)).
Waivers: You may request a waiver or reduction of fees if the request primarily benefits the general public.
Attorney General ruling: If records may be withheld under an exception, ECISD will request a ruling from the Texas Attorney General and notify you. If information you requested is withheld due to a legal exception, ECISD will request a ruling from the Texas Attorney General. You will be notified and may submit a written argument supporting disclosure. The Attorney General typically issues a ruling within 65 business days.
