Last night marked an exciting and meaningful moment in the story of East Central ISD.
Following months of thoughtful discussion, community feedback and careful consideration, the East Central ISD Board of Trustees discussed and voted to name our district's second comprehensive high school:
Thank You, East Central
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us reach this milestone.
To our community, thank you for sharing your ideas, perspectives and passion for East Central ISD. Your feedback helped shape this process and ensured that the naming of this new school reflected the voices of the people it will serve for generations to come.
To the members of our Naming Committee, thank you for the extraordinary amount of time, care, thought and heart you brought to this responsibility. The conversations were passionate, meaningful and always centered on what this new school will represent for our students and our community.
And to our Board of Trustees, thank you for your leadership, thoughtful discussion and commitment to honoring both the community's input and the significance of this decision. Naming a school is about much more than selecting words for a building. It is helping establish an identity that students, families, staff and alumni will carry with pride for decades.
A Note About the Name
You may notice "East Central" at the beginning of the school's official name. This follows the same naming convention used across East Central ISD. Our campuses are formally identified as East Central Heritage, East Central Legacy, East Central Harmony and so on. In everyday use, however, those names are commonly shortened to Heritage, Legacy and Harmony. Summit will follow that same pattern. Its official name is East Central Summit High School, while most day-to-day references will simply be Summit High School or Summit.

Hear the discussion that led to this historic moment and watch the Board of Trustees officially approve the name.
Opening Fall 2028
Summit is scheduled to open in Fall 2028. The new comprehensive high school is one of the projects funded through the community-approved Bond 2025 program as East Central ISD continues preparing for enrollment growth and additional student capacity.
The Celebration Is Just Getting Started!
The name is only the beginning.
In the months ahead, we will be planning a formal celebration for Summit, where we will unveil the school's official logo, mascot and colors for the first time.
More information is coming soon. We can't wait to share what's next!
Please note: The Summit graphic featured on this page was created only as a visual for this announcement. It is not an official logo or identity for Summit. The school's official branding has not yet been developed and will be unveiled at a future celebration.
This is an exciting new chapter for East Central ISD, and we are thankful to be writing it together.
Thank you, East Central.
