Commemorative Dates and Months

East Central ISD proudly recognizes Commemorative Dates & Months

East Central ISD is committed to honoring and recognizing the diverse backgrounds and cultures of its community. The District believes that every individual has a role in fostering a thriving and inclusive environment. Through the efforts of the District's equity task force and steering committees, East Central ISD will continue to recognize nationally and internationally designated commemorative months with educational initiatives that promote unity and celebrate culture and heritage.

During these commemorative months, schools will proudly display biographies of influential artists, scientists, and other thought leaders. Additionally, school libraries will feature collections of books, stories, and poems by authors who reflect the celebrated heritage of the month. This initiative aims to educate and inspire students while highlighting the rich diversity within the District.

The following dates and months will be recognized during the academic year: National HIspanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), Constitution Day & Citizenship Day (Sept. 17), Italian American History Month (Oct.), Native American Heritage Month (Nov.), International Day of Persons with Disabilities (Dec. 3), Human Rights Day (Dec. 10), Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18), African American History Month (Feb.), Women's History Month and Irish-American Heritage Month (March), Deaf History Month (March 13-April 15), Jewish American Heritage Month and Asian Pacific Heritage Month (May), and Pride Month (June).

Thank you for helping us celebrate diversity and inclusion. Together, we can show compassion and appreciation for all cultures as we prepare our students for a global economy.
