About Proposition A

What is Proposition A?

The November 2026 Proposition A is an election to consider adding funding to East Central ISD.

What would Proposition A fund?

Funding goals identified by ECISD include:

  • Hire more staff to serve the district's growing student population.
  • Remain competitive in attracting and retaining highly-qualified employees.
  • Continue performance-based pay that rewards high-performing teachers.
  • Hire safety personnel to meet state requirements and keep schools safe.
  • Maintain or even reduce class sizes.
  • Keep up with inflation while maintaining the lowest total tax rate in Bexar County.
  • Continue investing in student achievement.
How does Proposition A work?

Proposition A asks voters to consider adjusting the tax rate to provide additional funding for day-to-day operational expenses.

The maintenance and operations tax rate can increase to keep up with inflation and day-to-day operational costs. For ECISD, this means restoring 6 cents while keeping the total rate lower than all other Bexar County ISDs.

Because the debt tax rate has dropped, the total tax rate would change by 1/100 of a penny.

How much additional funding is Proposition A expected to generate?
$8.47 million annually

Proposition A is expected to generate approximately $8.47 million in additional annual funding for ECISD.

What would Proposition A cost homeowners?

For the average home in ECISD, approval of Proposition A could add 13 cents to the annual tax bill.

The Proposition A increase equates to 1 cent a month on a $270,000 home.
What would happen to ECISD's total tax rate?

ECISD's current total tax rate is $0.9319 per $100 valuation.

Approval of Proposition A would change the total tax rate to $0.9320 per $100 valuation.

$0.9319 + $0.0001 = 1/100 of a penny
Why does the ballot say the tax increase is 8.98 percent?

Proposition A asks voters to consider changing, or ratifying, the tax rate to access additional funding for students.

State law requires the ballot to state that it is an 8.98 percent increase.

The 8.98 percent figure means the district's Maintenance & Operations revenue would increase by 8.98 percent, or $8,470,660, if approved by voters.

What will voters see on the ballot?

East Central Independent School District
Proposition A: This Is a Tax Increase

For Against
