While operating with one of the lowest per-student funding levels and maintaining the lowest school tax rate in Bexar County, East Central ISD continues delivering stronger academic outcomes and expanded opportunities for students. 

The Reality of School Finance in Texas

Although ECISD has maintained strong financial health, public schools across Texas continue to face significant financial challenges.

The cost of educating students has increased substantially, while state funding has struggled to keep pace.

The Basic Allotment remained at $6,160 from 2019 through 2024–25. In 2025–26, it increased by $55 to $6,215 per student in average daily attendance.

In addition:

• School districts have experienced rising costs for utilities, transportation, insurance, instructional materials and employee compensation.
• Districts across Texas continue to absorb new requirements without proportional increases in funding.

Simply put, schools are expected to do more every year with virtually the same level of state funding.

ECISD has responded through careful planning, responsible budgeting and a relentless focus on efficiency—allowing us to continue investing in students while maintaining long-term financial stability.

Thankfully, East Central ISD has a history of strong fiscal responsibility.
