About
What is Social Emotional Learning?
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) can help all young people thrive personally and academically, develop and maintain positive relationships, become lifelong learners, and contribute to a more caring world. There are five core social and emotional areas that support learning and development.
- Self-Awareness
- Self-Management
- Decision Making
- Relationship Skills
- Social Awareness
How is ECISD implementing Social Emotional Learning?
Our vision integrates a holistic approach to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) by enhancing employees' and students' capacity to build skills, attitudes and relationships that effectively meet the needs of the whole child. SEL is embedded in classroom learning daily and supplemented by the use of direct teaching resources and counselor guidance lessons at all levels.
Focus areas for the development of student competency are emotion regulation, growth mindset and self-efficacy.
What does Social Emotional Learning look like in classrooms?
At ECISD, teachers at all grade levels and across content areas integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) into instruction. The goal is to connect content learning with the whole child, establishing equitable learning environments and optimal development outcomes. The school year is divided into two-week blocks, each focusing on one of the CASEL Core Competencies.
