Ms. Kate Jones-Waddell

Hi! I'm Ms. Jones-Waddell, but you can call me Ms. J-W. This is my fourth year teaching at Legacy and I'm so excited to be working with your students! I graduated from Trinity University with BA in Theatre in 2019, and again in 2020 with my Master of Arts in Teaching. In college I participated in many aspects of theatre: performing, directing, costume design, stage management, sound design, scene painting, playwriting, etc. I can't wait to work with your students and help them find the parts of theatre that they love the most.

To me, theatre has always been about building community. The process of putting a show together is filled with collaboration between a diverse set of people with a range of experience levels. The moments of learning, growth, and collaboration that come from the sometimes months long process of putting a show together are infinitely valuable. I want my classroom to focus on process centered theatre that allows for and encourages those beautiful moments of student growth, collaboration, and community building.

I want students to know that theatre is an art form that can be theirs. It is theirs to explore and use as a form of self-expression. It is theirs to use as a creative outlet. It is theirs to use to form connections with others. I want to facilitate a positive, accepting environment in which students feel comfortable and confident learning and growing through theatre, and making theatre their own. It is important to me that student work is authentic. I want to give students a platform in which they can delve into real world issues that matter to them through art, and through that make connections to themselves and their communities. More than anything, I want my theatre classroom to be a place where students can feel safe, loved, and accepted.
