Qualifications for Educational Aides in Title I Schools (ESSA)
Educational aides / instructional paraprofessionals must meet pre-employment requirements for Title I schools to satisfy the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Please review the information below to confirm your eligibility and submit the required documentation.
Paraprofessional Qualifications
• 19 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Good moral character and clear criminal record
Educational Requirements
- 48 college credit hours or
- Associates degree or higher or
- Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals certificate (A five-day workshop to meet ESSA requirements for highly effective paraprofessionals. )
- Workshop is offered at Region 20.

Certification Requirements
All paraprofessionals must hold an Educational Aide Certificate issued by the Texas Education Agency.
How to Apply for the Certificate

Create/Log in to your TEA Login (TEAL) account.

Apply for the Educational Aide certificate.

Upload any required documents and complete fingerprinting if prompted.
