About the Program

Mission

To provide real-world, relevant coursework in a caring environment, preparing students for post-secondary experiences and becoming responsible citizens. We believe in every student's potential and will equip them with skills in emerging technologies and leadership opportunities through CTE organizations.

Core Beliefs

Challenging coursework is designed to cause a student to persist in volunteering their time and effort to mastering the concepts necessary for success in this global economy.
Productive and responsible citizens are individuals, through well designed lessons, who will know what 21st century skills and workplace competencies mean and will be able to apply them in any situation.
High expectations will be developed for each individual student and will promote the persistence of their time and effort required to master the concepts of the skills we expect students to know and be able to do.
Emerging technologies represent contemporary advances and innovation around the 21st century in various fields of technology.
Leadership opportunities will include the process of developing social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task.

The East Central Independent School District offers career and technology education programs in Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; Arts, A/V Technology and Communications; Business, Management & Administration; Education and Training; Finance; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security; Manufacturing; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics. Alamo Academies

Alamo Area Aerospace Academy

The Alamo Area Aerospace Academy prepares students for careers in the aerospace and aviation industries through college-level coursework and hands-on training at the St. Philip’s College Southwest Campus.

Students may earn up to 30 hours of college credit during the two-year program while continuing to earn their East Central High School diploma. Students remain eligible to participate in ECHS UIL activities.

Who can apply: East Central sophomores
Location: St. Philip’s College Southwest Campus
Transportation: Students must provide transportation to ECHS to catch the early bus to the college campus.

Health Careers Program

This two-year program gives students the opportunity to complete college coursework while working toward LVN certification.

Students apply during their sophomore year and must have earned at least 13 high school credits. The program includes summer college coursework, with afternoon classes held at the main campus of St. Philip’s College.

Who can apply: Students completing their sophomore year
Location: St. Philip’s College main campus
Transportation: Students are responsible for transportation to the college.

Diesel & Construction Equipment Technology

Information Technology & Security Academy

The Information Technology & Security Academy introduces students to major areas of the IT industry, including:

Networking
Computer architecture
Web development

Students gain hands-on experience building network systems, troubleshooting computers and developing web-based projects.

During the two-year program, students may earn up to 30 hours of college credit through St. Philip’s College. Students may also work with industry mentors and participate in paid summer internships.

College credit: Dual credit through St. Philip’s College
Transportation: Students must provide transportation to ECHS to catch the early bus to the college campus.

Manufacturing Academy

This two-year program prepares students for careers in manufacturing production and facilities maintenance.

Students spend part of each school day at the St. Philip’s College Southwest Campus and may earn up to 30 college semester hours and six high school credits. College coursework is tuition-free.

Students may also participate in a paid summer internship between their junior and senior years, preparing them for employment in local industry or continued education after graduation.

Student Organizations

East Central FFA

The East Central FFA was established and earned it's charter October 2, 1950. Then, this chapter was composed of rural male students. Today, the East Central FFA is dynamic student organization that has earned more than 23 National Titles through the National FFA Organization. The East Central FFA encourages the development of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education in all students.
