East Central Independent School District offers many program options that provide an environment where advanced and gifted students are engaged in an innovative learning environment that offers opportunities to think critically and creatively about complex issues, experience wonder and unleashes their natural curiosity in order to reach their fullest potential in order to one day make valuable contributions to society.

Students who are identified as gifted through the district's screening process are eligible for participation in the elementary gifted program. Program instruction for grades K-5 is achieved through a pull-out program and identified G/T students are provided service in all four core areas. Scheduling will be individualized per each campus to meet the needs of the G/T students best. Students served in this program will not be penalized for missing regular classroom time. The elementary G/T teachers/facilitators will coordinate with classroom teachers to address issues of assignments and grades.

Students at the middle and high school grades receive GT services through the Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP), Advanced Placement (AP), Humanities, Colloquium, and Dual-Credit (DC) College courses.

The Advanced Academics Department also works to promote college awareness and college prep through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program, college testing opportunities (PSAT, SAT & ACT) and Military Readiness.
