On October 23 Astronaut Mark Polansky, Commander of the space shuttle Endeavour crew that carried the East Central banner 6.5 million miles to the International Space Station and back, visited East Central High School. He presented at two assemblies for math, science, and astronomy students. That evening before the Hornets vs. Rockets football game, he and his wife, LIsa Ristow Polansky, a 1989 graduate of East Central High School, presented the well-traveled banner to representatives of the District and the high school's rocket teams that had gone to national competition last spring.
