    To:       All District Employees Earning Sick Leave

     

    RE:      Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank Enrollment

     

    All district employees earning sick leave are eligible to join the Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank (CSLB).  The East Central ISD will conduct open enrollment for the Catastrophic Sick Leave Bank from September 05 – September 16, 2016.  During this time, employees may enroll into the program for the first time by donating three days of accrued or anticipated state or local leave.

     

    By enrolling into the program employees are eligible for additional sick leave pay benefits in the event of an unexpected, extended catastrophic illness or injury for themselves. Days from the CSLB shall be granted only for catastrophic illness, injury, surgery or other serious temporary disability which necessitates an absence from work for five (5) consecutive days or longer.  After the initial five consecutive day period, intermittent days may qualify if all other provisions of the policy are met.  Days may be requested from the CSLB only after the member has exhausted all accumulated and anticipated state/local sick leave days and compensatory time. Employees that receive vacation days must also exhaust all of those days before receiving days from the bank.

     

    Employees who enroll in the CSLB become eligible for the Catastrophic Sick Leave Pool. The days in the pool may be used for an employee who has exhausted 45 days from the CSLB due to an illness, or injury for themselves, or for an employee’s immediate family member who experiences a catastrophic illness or injury that necessitates the employee’s absence from work for five consecutive days or longer, and the employee must have exhausted all available leave.

     

    NEW EMPLOYEES

    All new employees to the district must complete a CSLB Enrollment Form.  If you did not complete and return this form during a Benefit Packet meeting, please do so now.  We will need this form completed and returned to either the Payroll Department or Employee Benefits Department by Monday, September 19, 2016.   If you wish to join the CSLB, complete Part A and Part B of the Enrollment Form.  If you do not wish to join the CSLB, complete Part A and C of the Enrollment Form. Enrollment forms can be obtained from the district website.

     

    VETERAN EMPLOYEES

    If you have been an employee of the district prior to this school year you should have already had a chance to join the CSLB.  It is during this enrollment period in September that you may once again have the option of joining the CSLB.  If in the past you decided to not join the CSLB, you can now choose to join the CSLB.  You may join the CSLB by completing Part A and Part B of the attached Enrollment Form and return this form to either the Payroll Department or Employee Benefits Department by Monday, September 19, 2016.  Enrollment forms can be obtained from the district website.

     

    If you joined the CSLB last year or declined membership in the CSLB last year and do not wish to change this decision, you do not have to do anything.  Your status in the CSLB will not change.  If you are a member of the CSLB already, and are requesting to cancel membership, please contact payroll or employee benefits.
